I just recently arrived safely home after a scary bus ride through Lima.  Rubie and I we on are way back from teaching an English conversation class in downtown Lima when we began our thrilling ride through the streets of Lima.  We were rushed into the bus and then packed in the bus like sardines.  This is very typical and we were accustomed to full body contact while riding buses in Lima.  However, our bus driver must have been preparing for the Indy 500, or laps around 285 in Atlanta.  This guy was all over the place and taking turns on two wheels.  Anyway, it was an eventful ride.  I spent this past weekend in Chincha doing some more construction and spending some time talking about the possibility of me spending some more time in Chincha.  I am amazed that it has been almost 2 months since I left the states to come to Peru.  One thing I have realized recently is that distractions are everywhere.  “Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” (Hebrews 12:1).  Running the race is something that we must choose daily and we must keep our eyes open to those things which deter our vision of the course we are running.  Something I am learning is that keeping focus is of utmost importance, not just because I am in Peru, so I can effectively run this race of faith.  I am amazed that the bus drivers here in Lima are able to keep their focus on the roads without causing a wreck or injuring a pedestrian.
Food I have tried here in Peru:
1. Aji de gallina-its delicious
2. Tacu Tacu-its not taco salad, its much better
3. Ceviche- raw fish with onions and some other stuff, its pretty good
Here comes the fun one, people with weak stomachs should turn away

4. Pig intestine, it was quite tasteful

On the list of testing food:
1. Guinea Pig
2. Cow heart

  1. Hi Jason,
It’s good to hear you have a strong stomach to handle the bus rides and the food! I love hearing of the work you are doing for the Lord and about the lives of those you are touching all for His glory. Heb. 12:1 is one we all should claim on a daily basis. You are so right about staying on the right path. I think of the horses/mules that wear blinders so they can only see what is in front of them. That is almost what we need to keep our focus on the Lord and off the things of this world. I’m thankful you are learning to keep your focus and stay on the path the Lord has for you. Praying for you.
    Proverbs 3:5,6

  2. OK, so Jesus did declare all foods clean in Mark, but really!!!! I am sure your stomach can handle it. I am glad you seem to be doing so well. We all miss you and pray for your continued fruitfulness.

  3. Good insight, Jason. I know it is tuff sometimes to not let other things cloud what God wants to do in our lives, but keep your eyes on Him and He will help you through it. He is worth all of our attention, and I know He has big things for you! We are praying for you!

PS. Im not sure about your food choices…ugg! 😉

  4. Don’t bring the driving tips home with you. They give out tickets for that kind of driving in McDonough. LOL. I’m glad you are so adventurous with your stomach. I’m really going to watch you prepare that meal you promised to cook us when you get home. I”ll have to check the pet stores to make sure they have no guinea pigs!!!!. We love you and miss you. I’m checking Skype everyday. love Mom

  5. Hi Jason,

Its Joe Hernandez from fordham manor in the bronx. We had a great time learning from you about mission service and commitment. Thanks for sharing your adventures. That bus adventure sounds pretty crazy. Speaking of food, why don’t you ask Hilda (Desi’s wife) about cat. She’ll give a break down on that.

    Peace,
    Joe

  6. haha because I love you: “Rubie and I we on are way back from teaching an English conversation class…” am I the only one that sees the irony in this sentence?

I worked at Strong Rock the other day and had to resort to playing basketball without you… it wasn’t as fun as me dunking on you…

    miss ya bro.
